Support Worker for Chef at Mama Low’s Kitchen

Location: Katherine Low Settlement
Hours: 3 hours per week (Fridays)
Pay: £25 per hour

We are looking for a compassionate and reliable Support Worker to assist our chef, a young neurodivergent woman, who prepares meals at our community kitchen on Fridays. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a supportive role, values inclusivity, enjoys cooking, and has a passion for helping others thrive in their work environment.

About Mama Low’s Kitchen: Mama Low’s is part of Sound Minds, a mental health charity transforming lives through music and the arts. Our primary aim is to provide a safe, inclusive space where individuals can explore their creativity while benefiting from peer support. As part of our peer support service we run a community kitchen at the Katherine Low Settlement where members can access a hot meal, as well as support from staff, and have the opportunity to socialise.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide practical support in a busy kitchen setting, assisting the chef as needed.
  • Help with organisation, shopping, time management, and maintaining a calm workspace.
  • Offer encouragement and reassurance in a way that respects the chef’s independence.
  • Support communication and interaction with the members and other staff.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience supporting neurodivergent individuals in a professional setting is desirable.
  • A calm, patient, and understanding approach.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • An interest in food, cooking, and community work (no professional kitchen experience required).
  • Reliable and committed to attending every Friday.
